Gregory Scott Slay – our beloved friend, partner, brother, master musician, beautiful artist – passed away this morning, January 1, 2010. He was in a peaceful place and surrounded by his family. We are so grateful for the time we were allowed with each other and for the wonderful opportunity to create with him for so many years. Gregory inspired all who had the chance to see him perform, to hear the music that he made or just to be around his bountiful spirit. He will be greatly missed.
With our deepest love,
Jeffrey Cain, Cedric LeMoyne, Cinjun Tate and Shelby Tate - the members of Remy Zero

Oh, I’m so sad to read this. I’ve thought of Gregory so often over the years, gently hoping he was doing okay, aware of his fragile health and the way he lived so courageously through it. I feel so lucky to have seen his energy in full bloom. His playing at the end of Hermes Bird has always been a particularly special light for me. I will listen now and think of him. Sweet tears. Oh, impermanence.
a tragedy.
Greg,
The world will be less without you. Thanks for showing us how to do it different, and how to create our own worlds.

I am so sorry to hear this news.
Gregory was and still is one of my favourite drummers of all time and a huge influence on me.
My thoughts and love go to all his family and friends and please know that although I never had the pleasure to meet Gregory, I am so pleased I had the chance to hear his music and experience the wonderful talent that he had. I only saw Remy Zero live once and that was at a little venue called The Borderline in London and to this day is still so fresh in my memory. I now live in New Zealand and by chance, today I am wearing my Remy Zero T-Shirt that I purchased all those years ago.
Thank you Gregory, sleep well and may you be at peace.
I’m so sorry guys. I didn’t know him but i’ve been a fan of Remy Zero ever since i saw the band perform at the Wiltern Theatre for a concert for the cause for breast cancer.
R.I.P. Gregory Scott Slay
rest in peace gregory..
I am shocked, and saddened to hear this. One of the last times I talked to Greg we spoke of the power of the human spirit to overcome adversity. As a person, a friend, and musician, Greg was deeply respected by many. The world has lost a great person, but we were blessed to have known him.
sorry to hear about that

My thoughts are with Gregory and his family. Thanks for the legacy of music that defines my college experience and continues to get me thru my day from Remy Zero.
So shocked & saddened to hear this news, I was..& still am a huge fan of Remy Zero & their various solo projects, but I’m also a drummer & found Gregory’s playing to be superb & inspirational. My thoughts go out to his family & friends.
May he rest in eternal peace
My thoughts go out to his family and friends.
My condolences to family and friends. This stinks.

I am shocked. I will always remember Greg as being very cool and generous. He gave me a nickname that to this day still sticks in certain groups. We were going in to the studio, and I had a crappy drum set and he offered me his bad ass kit to use. He was the man and will be missed.
Gregory… rest now. Watch over us. Thank you for the magic.
Such a lovely, gentle and gifted man whom I thought of often despite the distance and time since we last met. He made his mark and will be greatly missed.
All my love to his family and friends,

I am incredibly saddened to hear of Greg’s passing and my heart goes out to all his family and friends. I grew up around the corner from Greg in Mobile, AL and went to high school with him at McGill. I’ll never forget he and Jason’s band XCEL waaayyyy back in the day. Greg was, quite simply, a wonderful person. As I remember him, he always had a kind word for people and was always smiling. He seemed to always be humming on a slightly lighter and better frequency than the rest of us. I have very fond memories of him from over 20 years ago and have always kept up with his success over the years, often taking joy in being able to say “I know him, he’s a friend of mine from when I was young.” Again, my sincerest condolences to his family and friends. Greg, rest in peace brother. I am now certain you are humming on a lighter and better frequency.
I still remember conversations late into night at the Villa, Gregory patient and gracious enough to entertain the pestering of a young college punk he barely knew, eventually letting the kid crash on the floor. I’ll miss him.
My condolences and love.
i haven’t seen any of you in years, but i am so saddened by this news. i remember greg as being so sweet and kind. my thoughts are with all of you. love from boston.
I am shocked, sad and upset by Gregory’s passing. He is and will always be extremely special in my heart. The work he did as a drummer on my songs will be released next year. I deeply regret that we could not continue our recordings together. It hurts a lot- Gregory was nice to me and a unique, gifted person. His loss is felt at all levels. No one understood me like him.
I count seeing Remy Zero play as some of the happiest, best memories of my life, and they wouldn’t have been the same without Gregory. My love and prayers go out to all of his loved ones.
When Kimberly called me with the news I was crushed. In one summer I got to meet 4 amazing musicians. Gregory has a special spot in my heart. My prayers and love go out to you boys and Gregorys family.

Greg’s later music was childs play in refernce to his aptitude and musical ability. He lived a great life and will inspire me to play music for the rest of mine. I miss you.
I want to offer my deepest condolences to each person who knew Greg, to those whose lives were touched by his living presence and those who have, as a result of Greg’s passing, suffered sorrow. His life gifted many of us with inspiration and joy; his death has left as many deeply saddened. I regret that I was unable to travel to the memorial service in New Orleans but I know his life will be well-remembered. My love and thoughts to friends and family members.
